THE
SHOUTLESS - REVIEWS
BABY COME ON
There´s something mentally ill going on in Sweden and THE
SHOUTLESS are banging their heads against the walls of that country´s
musical padded cell along with the rest. How come Sweden can get
its rocks off while England fails? The most dangerous sounding
guitar I´ve heard all week shrieks its heart out on this
record and its pain is music to my ears. Somebody buy this band
a beer.
SOUNDS 861503
THE SHOUTLESS are back on the scene with another record. And
what a smasher it is.
I can promise, you haven´t heard
such a wild, raving and breathtaking song for long time. BABY COME ON is a self-penned piece with with shouted vocals,
a lot of tambourines,
a fuzzy guitar and a superb production.
Nevertheless
it doesn´t lack a really good and catchy melody and good
harmonies. Theres nothing more to be added, buy the record
and become another follower of this outstanding group from
Sweden.
Recommended!!!!!!!
They still sound a bit like The Nomads but BABY COME ON is
delievered with such power and determination even The Nomads
couldn´t
easily match it. I´ve been listening to it for months and
it still makes me shiver - I want to learn to play guitar that
way! STAY BY ME is a funny and harsh manicbilly ditty sure to make
you want how to bop, too.
You can´t live without this
45!
SISUBEAT
THE SHOUTLESS also have a new waxing out and though it isn´t
as great as INSANE was (you can´t come up with a masterpiece
each time, can you?) BABY COME ON is one of those great power stompers
that can set houses ablaze.
Whereas the singing is pretty normal,
though still exciting enough, it´s the guitar solo that makes
the record stand well ahead of other (similar) tunes….the
sharpest piece of messy fuzzbashing I´ve heard for ages.
Over the top feedback and fuzzzzzzz noise supported by an ultra
heavy backing….hear this live and you´ll be blown away.
A combination of ”Ace of spades”-era Motorhead and ”I´m
a man”-era Yardbirds couldn´t achieve more.
STAY BY
ME is ”The train kept a-rollin´”-influenced rockabilly
pop….great distorted bashing, too, gutsy and both tunes prove
that THE SHOUTLESS are to be reckoned with as one of Sweden´s
sharpest acts after quite a disappointing OUT OF REACH debut mini-LP.
These two tunes put them on par with The Nomads and gangs of equal
standard again.
This is also proved by the flexi coming with swedish
magazine ”The Eye”, a raw Stooges-soundalike
titled BUY THE EYE. Really a blistering thunderstorm of sounds.

BOWERY AT MIDNIGHT
THE SHOUTLESS have been around a while too, BOWERY AT MIDNIGHT
is the band´s second 12” release. The two guitar four-piece pack a hefty wallop, with blockbuster
performances of ON BROADWAY TONIGHT and I TELL YOU WHO
YOU ARE opening in fine style. DO THE EYE extends the band´s tribute
to Sweden´s excellent rock mag (”The eye”),
that began with their BUY THE EYE flexi-disc, a gloriously
punishing exercise in powerhouse guitarplay. The four tracks
on side two
are equally good, even the unpromisingly titled EAT SOME
FOOD which
is, in fact, one of the best. Excellent production by Willy
B retains every last ounce of power - a hard-rocking delight
served
hot -
grab one!
BUCKETFULL OF BRAINS juni 1987
I didn´t expect anything else, and I don´t want too
spend too many words on them. Those who don´t understand
can´t follow, it´s as easy as that. I knew that those
ultra-heavy songs in the path of the Nomads would be there and
that they would be great and real rave-ups. And so they were, but
it was those songs with the laid-back approach that round off this
LP. Read the titles and you will know what you get:
STEWBUMMER
WALTZ, BABY´S COMING HOME (a meisterwerk), GREAT
SHAKES,
DO THE EYE, ON BROADWAY TONIGHT.
I wished THE SHOUTLESS lived around the corner and I
could see them play twice a month. Unfortunately they
don´t. DO THE EYE is the fiercest fuzz-punker this side of the
ocean….who
has ever heard the like? I haven´t! God! Awards
for beeing really unbelievable heavy. What do these swedes
up there take?
